New Year at PVL.. No sooner had the PVL engineering team got back to work after all those New Year fun and games than they started talking about how they could help PVL customers save money. Being only human (as far as we can tell) they assume that all the regulars who phone 01892 664499, or go on line to PVL’s online shop at www.pvl.co.uk, have spent too much before Christmas, just as they have, and could do with some moneysaving help. Our globe-trotting head of sales and marketing, who had not dreamed up a good enough reason for using his company card to visit a new supplier in Australia for the New Year, arrived dressed for the arctic with his teeth chattering audibly. He announced that everybody should do what they could to help others save cash and that he had decided that rationalisation was the answer. Since, in politically correct union speak, ‘rationalisation’ usually means that the management has decided to fire everybody, brief consternation ensued, but it turned out that David had decided that everybody should suggest to every PVL customer to whom they spoke that they could save money by rationalising their supplier database. Pressed for an explanation, he discarded his outermost anorak, so that he could bend his arms, and began frantically drawing diagrams on the sales department white board, all the while delivering an impromptu lecture. “Having fewer suppliers can save any company money” he said. “Fewer suppliers means less work for the accounts department verifying invoices and statements against purchase orders. And it can also mean paying less for delivery charges, because if you buy three batches of products from the same company instead of from three different companies, you only pay one delivery charge instead of three.” “Any company that buys pressure switches from PVL probably also buys gauges from somebody” he went on. “So, now that PVL has the fantastic range of MEI pressure and vacuum gauges on the website at ePVL.co.uk, we can show our customers how they can save money by ordering their gauges with their pressure switches from the same supplier”. “Or their level switches with their level sensors” said one of the team. “Or their doughnuts with their coffee” muttered another, whose mind was on other things. So, if you call PVL at 01892 664499 during the next week and are told not only how to install our latest pressure transducers and how to save money by ordering some gauges at the same time, but are also offered a round of salami on rye, please be tolerant. We don’t actually sell sandwiches yet. but Jamie is still keen on the girl at the sandwich bar. And you could always use some of the money you save by rationalising your supplier database to buy your lunch. |
