Level Sensors

Level sensors

Used to measure the level of a fluid, either in a storage container or in a process, level sensors are an integral part of most industrial and commercial plant. They can be used to measure the quantity of any substances that flow - whether it's a liquid, powder, granular material or slurry-  and applications range from manufacturing to water treatment.

Here at PVL, we specialise in providing industrial components and our collection of level sensors includes an array of options to suit any requirements.

Types of level sensors

Since every industrial process is different, with varying requirements and unique conditions, a number of different types of level sensors are available to ensure there's something suitable for your situation. Options to consider when purchasing a sensor include the type of fluid substance it will be measuring, the amount of accuracy required and the means by which it works - such as a magnetic switch, an ultrasonic signal, conductive probe or a vibrating fork.

In some cases, a more specialised solution may be necessary, such as if the device needs to provide a specific type of reading or is going to be used in an irregular situation. Options include:

  • Water in oil sensors

Also known as WIO sensors, these devices can detect if there is moisture or water in oil and can control when separators and oil dryers start working based on the readings they generate.

  • Turbulent fluid sensors

Monitoring the level of liquids can be made more difficult if the substance is in a state of agitation. In these situations, having a sensor that is specifically designed for dealing with turbulent fluids will ensure you get more accurate readings.

  • Odd-shaped containers

If a tank, bund, silo or other storage container has an unusual shape, it may pose problems for your level sensor, and could result in readings that are inaccurate. If this is a problem for you, consider a level indicator that can be programmed for use in a container with an irregular shape.

  • Heavy-duty sensors

For situations in which the level sensor may be exposed to harsh environments - such as high temperatures, corrosive substances or even impacts from heavy objects - it may be necessary to consider a heavy-duty device that can withstand such conditions.
