|Operating principles of electromagnetic level gauges |
Electromagnetic level gauges use the force of a magnet in the float to change the electrical status of a reed switch. When the level of fluid increases, the float will move from B towards A. Once the magnet in the float reaches point A, the contact will close - a mechanical stop will usually control the movement of the float. If there is no stop in place, the contact will return to its original position when the magnet passes point B.
When the level of fluid drops, the float will move from A towards B, and as soon as the magnet reaches point A1 the contact opens.
The difference between points A and A1 is called the differential of the contact. This is normally very small, but it can be increased if
necessary using special contacts. To switch a contact from normally opened to normally closed or vice versa, you have to invert the float.

We offer a range of different float level sensors, depending on the chemical compatibility, temperature, specific gravity (density), viscosity and buoyancy of the liquid in question. Temperature-induced changes in specific gravity and viscosity will also affect the choice of float material.

industrial use. It is available in various materials and its measured value can be via either the analog
output or the switching output.

These level sensors are resistant to any changes in the atmosphere above the surface, while they are also partially resistant to the formation of foam on the surface. The output signal is not affected, even if the conductivity of the medium changes.
One example is the LCC1 Capacitive Level Sensor, which is designed for oil level detection in crankcases. It is ideal for difficult turbulent applications and it has an automatic recognition of different types of oil via reference capacitance. By transmitting a series of ultrasonic pulses, these level sensors are able to propagate towards the level surface. The method is resistant to changes in the medium in certain parameters, including changes in dielectric constant and conductivity, but can only be used for advanced testing if there are harsh conditions in the atmosphere above the level.
The OMNI-L Ultrasonic Level Sensor is a perfect example of the sensors we stock. Designed by Honsberg, it consists of an ultrasound sensor, which, contact-free, determines the separations of media of different types, such as fluids, transported goods and solids.
